Division of Critical Care
Dr. Jessica Fozard has dual roles where she serves as an attending physician in the Emergency Department while also serving as a critical care medicine attending in the ICU. She is the director of the Critical Care interest track. She has been working at WellSpan York Hospital since completing her critical care fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. She loves being involved in the full spectrum of patient care, especially the crossover between the two fields. She has provided expert mentorship to multiple EM residents successfully matching to critical care fellowship in the past few years.
YHEM provides a longitudinal track of critical care education to residents. Residents spend two months in the medical ICU as an intern and then one month during PGY2 year. Residents interested in pursuing fellowship or simply gaining more ICU experience can spend their elective month in the ICU as well. This includes the opportunity to spend dedicated time with the ECMO team. Additionally residents spend time two months in the trauma/surgical ICU during their PGY 2 year. More recently a joint EM/IM Critical Care journal club has been established to foster learning and discussion between the groups who often work together in the ICU. Residents also have the opportunity to engage with interdepartmental projects as well as various other educational and research opportunities to help bolster their interest in critical care.
